Swishing- So Wot's All Da Fuss ‘Bout Then?

Ok will keep it brief (like G-strings).

Swishing is gr8 becoz:

  • It’s eco-matey.
  • U met nu peeps with the same mind (or in some cases jelly) set.
  • U gets 2 go shoppin 4 free (C wot I did dere? Wid the square root an ting?).
Okay forget the maths, ere’s the science:

U get 2 see some1 use a garm you have
a) never worn (…spud) or
b) loved once but had enough of (so off load and free your wardrobe…u get me?)

Dahhhhhh it’s a no-brainer: join the (r)evolution, then tell a friend and an enemy.

Bo! Nuff said.

International Day of Swishing’s Flagship Event
09 Jan 2010 15:00
Venue: Andaz Liverpool Street Hotel, London
The event is free of charge

We at Futerra are overjoyed at how fabulous all of your swishes are looking. We are also excited to announce that January 9th 2010 is officially the first ever International Day of Swishing.
There are now Swishers all over the world from South Africa to Belgium and New Zealand to Japan.
To celebrate we are throwing an eco-fabulous ‘Red Carpet Swish’ at London’s Swanky Andaz Hotel in Liverpool Street.
There will be music, alcohol, fabulous people and fabulous clothes. As well as being able to upgrade your wardrobe without risking the chaos of January sales, you will also be able to relax and enjoy one of London’s most exclusive venues.
Doors will open at 3.00pm and Swishers will have an hour and a half to drop off clothes and relax with a cocktail.
The first Swish will run from 4.30 until 5.30 and then another cocktail break will be followed by more Swishing and you guessed it, more cocktails.
We will be following a points system. Designer items will be given 15 points, vintage 10 points and other items 5 points. Swishers can then take away items equivalent to the value of the items they came with. Items will be assigned points at the door by our fashionista Swishing attendees.
We will have style advisors in the form of London’s next big designers. Students from London’s top fashion courses will be on hand to offer style advice and basic amendments.
Numbers are limited so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Queen of Swaps Clothes Swap in aid of MAG International
17 Jan 2010 14:00
Venue: Pangea Project, Stoke Newington
Entry fee £3

Pangea Project Sunday 17 January, 2-4pm
Swapping starts at 2.30pm

Like throwaway fashion but know it's bad for your pocket (and the environment)!? Then we've got the perfect thing for you - a Queen of Swaps clothes swap in aid of MAG International at the Pangea Project.

Come along with an item or two that no longer excites you (maybe it was impulse buy of diamante encrusted espadrilles that don't fit with your current sailor boy look), but might do it for someone else (a member of Priscilla Queen of the Desert cast, perhaps?)

Eat cake, drink tea, chat to fellow swappers, rummage for gems, donate to charity and leave with lots of lovely new (to you) clothes! It costs just £3 (proceeds going to MAG International)

The rules (otherwise it will just get nasty!)

Everyone must bring at least ONE item of clothing (high street to high end and everything inbetween as long as it's in good nick); people can leave with as many items as they want
No-one can claim items before the swap starts
Don't bring anything broken beyond all repair or that is stinky. Broken zips are fine
AND
Remember - no scratching, spitting or biting

Any leftover/unwanted swaps will be donated to a local charity shop and/or put into the next swap.

The Big Swish in London – Clothes Swap

January 19, 2010
Venue: Tiger Tiger in Piccadilly
Tickets £6.50 in advance or £7.50 on the door

Our clothes swapping roadshow – The BIG Swish – hits London next week. We’ll be at Tiger Tiger in Piccadilly on Thursday 21st January 2010.

6.00pm – Clothes drop off begins
7.00pm – Doors open
7.30pm – Introductions by hosts Bigwardrobe.com & Daisy Green Events
7.40pm – The Phoenix Rose play live 10 minute set
7.50pm – Celebrity clothing auction for charity
8.00pm – Count down to The BIG Swish
For more information: http://www.bigwardrobe.com/TheBigSwish

HOW IT WORKS ON THE NIGHT
Bring your clothes to the venue at the designated time, where the team will check and sort them for you. Please bring up to 15 items, (in great condition) of clothing to donate to The BIG Swish and bring your clothes on hangers. You can also bring unlimited accessories. Your clothes will be sorted into 2 areas;
1. High Street (clothing from the high street stores)
2. Premium (designer labelled goods or items which are a ‘little bit special’)
The decision will be made by the sorting team on the door. However, feel free to mark which items you think should be allocated to the Premium Area. You will receive one swishing passport for entry to the swish. If you have donated both high street and premium clothes, you will have access to both swishing areas. The number of items you have donated to will be recorded on your swishing passport and you can take the same amount of clothing and/or accessories home with you.
TRYING THINGS ON
There will be a changing area for you to try your clothes on. You may only take the amount of clothes to try on that is shown on your swishing passport. However, you are free to re-enter these areas at any time and swap your choices for different items to take back to the changing rooms (just like most changing rooms on the high street). If you choose more items, you can make a minimum donation of £2 for each high street item and £5 for each Premium item, which will be donated to the charity.

YOU MUST SHOW YOUR PASSPORT BEFORE LEAVING
Before leaving the clothes swish, your passport will be checked to ensure the number of items you’re taking home correspond to the items you brought with you. This is to ensure things are fair for everyone.
Please remember this is a clothing donation and there is always a chance that you will not take away as much as you have donated. But happily, this means any clothing left at the end of the event will be donated to the designated charity.
Friends can pay on the door or buy tickets online from: http://www.bigwardrobe.com/

Refashionable Clothes Swap
26 Jan 2010 19:00
Venue: The Banker, Cousin Lane EC4R 3TE

Tickets £7.00 in advance or £8.00 on the door

Come and have a fun day clothes swapping with your friends and go home with a new wardrobe!

The UK’s premiere clothing recycling website www.refashionable.com is once again hosting a clothes swap event in London.

Probably the most relaxed clothes swap event you will ever attend!

Unlike other clothes swaps we display all clothes neatly, there are changing rooms for you to try on and attendance is limited to 50 people per swap so there is plenty of room for you to browse. In addition each attendee will receive a free cotton tote bag to take their new clothes home in!

Tickets £7.00 in advance or £8.00 on the door.

Tickets available to purchase at http://www.eventbrite.com/myevent?eid=505695549

New Location

The event starts at 7pm at The Banker, Cousin Lane EC4R3TE (http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/clubs_bars/venue-456.php). Swap will begin at 8pm so make sure you arrive promptly.

The Banker will be serving food all evening, please e-mail christine@refashionable.com for a menu.

Here’s how it works:

* Bring along between 5 and 10 items from your wardrobe you no longer need. These need to be clean and in near perfect condition – an item someone else would be delighted to receive (please no soiled or damaged clothes)
* Hand over your items to the swaps desk on arrival in return for your swaps card on which we will give you one credit for each item you bring.
* Swapping will commence at 8pm. Each attendee will be given a Refashionable cotton tote bag to stash their goodies in. There are also toilets available for trying on clothes.
* Items will be ticked off your swap card before you leave. You will be allowed to take the same amount of items you bring (so make sure not to misplace your swap card)
* If you have any credits left over at the end you will be able to keep hold of your swap card and use them at another Refashionable Swap event.

For those of you who attended out last swap don’t forget to bring your swap cards with any credits you have - they are valid for this swap as well!
